Gibson Hummingbird Guitar

Gibson Hummingbird A true legend of acoustic guitars, the Gibson Hummingbird Guitarwas first introduced in 1960 as Gibson’s earliest square-shoulder dreadnought. Superb for all styles of playing, the Hummingbird quickly became the icon of the Gibson acoustic line, and a favorite among legends like Gram Parsons and Keith Richards. Today’s Gibson Hummingbird is made to the specs of the first model produced in 1960, and still stands as one of the finest—and beautiful—acoustic guitars in the world.

The Gibson Hummingbird Guitar has a Solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany for the body sides, back and neck. Personally I love the cherry sunburst color. The pick guard is made of tortoise shell and inlaid with the Hummingbird motif.

A couple things I really love about the Gibson Hummingbird is it’s unique appearance and it great warm sound. I bet if you pulled this guitar out where there are mostly players with Taylors and Martins you would get some serious neck snaps (kind of like when you see a hot chick!).

The sound of the Gibson Hummingbird equals its visual beauty in every sense. It is rich, full, and vibrant, with awesome sound projection. Not everyone thinks so, but I felt the bass and treble notes were nicely balanced. The Hummingbird sound is pretty versatile, too. You can play it with a flatpick, sounds very good on solos played up the neck, and turns rich and extra warm for fingerstyle playing. No matter if you play country, folk, and it rocks good too. It has a wonderful deep sound with good sustain.

Coming into building this website I always considered myself a Taylor man when it comes to acoustic guitars. As I play more and more Gibson Acoustic Guitars, I just might start to become a Gibson man.

I love this guitar as it is very versatile. It looks great, sounds great, and there’s no doubt it will cost a lot of money. Expect to spend $2000-30000 (see below for availability on eBay)…but you won’t regret it for a minute! This is an acoustic guitar you will enjoy playing and keep for years to come.

I HIGHLY recommend the Gibson Hummingbird Guitar for the serious musician. It might set you back a little because of the cost, but I don’t think I’ve ever regretted spending a little more for quality.
